Abstract
Objective£ºWe conducted a cross-sectional study in order to investigate the factors related to the activities of daily living(ADL) status among patients in geriatric hospitals.

Methods£ºThe ADL status and its related factors for 1,001 patients in 8 long-term care hospitals were examined in 2003 using Resident Assessment Instrument for Long-term Care Facility Version 2.0.

Results£º79.9% of the subjects had a neurological diagnosis. A multiple regression analysis revealed that the significant factors relating to activities of daily living were cognitive function, balance, voluntary movement, visual function, and neurological diagnosis. The multiple adjusted R-square was .66.

Conclusion£ºThe results showed that neurological disease was the most common diagnosis. and that activities of daily living were related to various physical functions. Therefore, our study suggests that rehabilitation therapy services for patients with a neurological diagnosis need to be developed. In particular, occupational therapy needs to be expended to increase the ADL status of patients in geriatric hospitals.
